The Government is spending over £450 million on improving Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary academies and schools.
Funding is allocated directly to academies and is used to develop the PE and sport activities that the school already offers, as well as making improvements that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example:
- Hiring qualified coaches to work with teachers
- Providing existing staff with training or resources to help teach PE and sport more effectively
- Introducing new sports or activities and encourage more people to take up sport.
- Supporting and involving the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubs.
- Running sports competitions
- Increasing pupil participation in school games
- Running sports activities with other schools.
How we use our funding
Here at Reedswood, our PE and sport funding has been used to improve both the provision of PE teaching as well as pupils’ engagement in a range of sports.
- Funding has been used to encourage participation in physical activity during lunchtime and after-school clubs.
- A budget has also been allocated to support participation in the School Games, thus allowing a variety of children to take part in both intra and inter-academy/school competitions. The academy is committed to achieving the School Games Mark.
- The academy has worked closely with coaches from Walsall Football Club in previous years.
- Mr. Beck; our experienced sports coach, teaches across all year groups and supports a variety of after-school clubs as well as modelling lessons on a termly basis for individual members of staff.
The academy was awarded the Gold School Games award in both 2016, 2017 and 2018, which recognises the tremendous achievement of the academy in recent years.
We were awarded the Black Country commitment Award for PE and school sports for the academic year 2019-20, which we are all very proud of. Well done, Mr Farley and Mr Beck!
